Most people do not understand the ISO fire rating for a community. - TopicsExpress

Most people do not understand the ISO fire rating for a community. The rating runs from Class 1 which is the best to a Class 10 which is no fire protection. There are 2 main items that govern how much you pay in insurance, the value of a building and the ISO rating of the fire service. If the city closes a station and fires 9 to 12 firefighters the city will definitely lose its Class 2 rating. Just the drop from a 2 to a 3 will be bad but to go to a Class 4 or 5 will be devastating to our community. The economic impact will take many years to overcome this decision. Think about this, why would a property owner such as the hospital ask to be annexed into the city and pay higher taxes than what they were paying in the county. The insurance cost savings from the County with a Class 5 and the city with a Class 2 is enormous. I strongly urge every business owner to check on this immediately as time is running out before a decision is reached. I hope the city does not close this station and listens to reason.
