Most people dont talk about their downfalls but I think downfalls - TopicsExpress

Most people dont talk about their downfalls but I think downfalls are what make you better especially if you can admit the crazy crap that goes on during those moments. We were on our way back from Little Harbor in the Abacos sailing towards Beaufort, NC and our spinnaker was flying. Well it was attempting to fly or declare mutiny on the Windsong. It was my shift at the helm, Ruth Ann was sleeping and I had decided to keep the spinnaker up for the night. The winds were light but a little variable on direction. After dark I started hearing the sail luff more than it had during the day. Looked up and it was wrapped around the jib furler about 8 times at the top and 6 times at the bottom. Ruth Ann decided that it was best to wait and climb the mast after daylight so that is what we did. The spinnaker was stuck but we were motoring but that worked. The next morning I had to be hoisted to the top of the mast to start to unravel this mess. Ruth Ann thought we would have to cut that 5000 dollar sail down. I was cringing at that thought. No way was I gonna cut that thing down. I spent 45 minutes dangling from a bosuns chair at the 50 feet level while the boat was moving forward at 5 naughts swinging from side to side at least 10 feet both ways. All the time I am up in the air flying in this bosuns chair my wife is down taking pictures of some maniac monkey swing around up above. We got the spinnaker down without having to cut it and tucked it away safely below deck waiting for its next adventure on the high seas. You never know what the sea is gonna throw at you but be ready for anything. Just a small story in the many at sea
