Most people see beauty as something superficial such as the “outside” of a person - their hair, makeup, weight. Appearance. However, I believe that beauty is much more. Someone who is kind and compassionate is beautiful. I often have met people who are very easy on the eyes and good to look at but who are selfish, materialistic, and mean. After a while of knowing them they turn ugly to me. I firmly believe that beauty radiates from the inside out. The ideal body in western culture, I believe is deeply modified by the media. Tall, skinny and large assets are what western culture sees as beautiful. The types of bodies that are generally omitted are any type that does not fit the media’s idea of perfection such as shorter, chubby, natural, etc. I classify myself as a feminist. I struggle with my body appearance daily. I am not sure if it is because of the society I live in or my own internal demons but I am very self conscious. I am not comfortable in tight shirts, sleeveless, or without make up. I do not think I have ever been treated negatively due to my outer appearance. My skin color is white, so I have to acknowledge my white privilege and I think that is very present in how society sees me. I absolutely classify myself as a feminist :)
