Most people would rather be certain they’re miserable, than risk being happy. – Robert Anthony What do you think makes you successful? A great job, higher status, more wealth, degrees and finally being able to impress those whom you dont really care to impress in the first place? Looks to me as people think the root of everything were chasing is this false success. I dont think any of those things can make a person happy. In a culture based on profit and earnings, weve grown up to attribute happiness as the product of success, measuring our lives by the level of our achievements and goals attained. Thing is, there couldnt be a more wrong way of looking at it.. Success is not, and never has been a reflection of happiness. But rather the other way around. If success was the recipe to happiness, shouldnt the very rich and accomplished be the happiest people we know? Not entirely. Dont believe that success is the answer to happiness and happiness is just a byproduct, a factor to (you guessed it) success. But dont get me wrong, success most definitely has a stake in happiness, but not in the way many people think it does. Success is earned and happiness is achieved, success is the race and happiness is the finish line, success is money and happiness is value. Success is an achievement, but happiness is the only achievement. I will never choose trying to be successful over trying to be happy. I spend my life chasing happiness. Of course, I may not always find it. In fact, a big part of our struggle with life is finding out what makes us happy, and more importantly, what makes us consistently happy. I think the real success is being sincerely happy in what you do. I for one, could be living on the streets without a care in the world as long as Im happy. Just dont forget whos going to be there for you in the long run... Yourself. Id like to thank the people I love, for making me happy.
