Most valuable resource If we go by the most historically valued resource: Its gold. Before money systems were even around, humans realized this stuff is: easily recognizable, easily exchanged, and very scare. Thus, for thousands of years its been used as a back to currencies or as a currency itself. Though countries no longer have gold standards, gold is still highly traded and valuable especially if inflation occurs. If we go by most necessary to human survival: Its water. Although we have over 300 million trillion gallons of it, only a fractional amount is desalinated or not contaminated. Water is more essential to life than trees, assuming our air is oxygenated to begin with. If we go by most scarce element: Its Berkelium. Its name comes from the fact that it was created in the labs of Berkeley. It should be noted that things have changed a lot in this regard in the last century or so. In order to keep this answer relevant, prepared to have some other planetary element called Unobtainium that you have to kill the native people, whom are blue, to get. If we go by the most scarce consumer resource: Its oil. As resources go, oil actually isnt all that expensive, but the problem is we use a lot of it. Once its used, its gone forever. Our demands are constantly going up and the total amount is just going down. Unless we find something more efficient, youre yet to see outrageous oil prices. If we go by the most expensive resource: Its the Higgs Boson - often colloquially called the God Particle (original answer was anti-matter). Printer ink is nearly $8000/Gallon. Luckily, we dont use all that much of it. If we go by most valuable darwinistic resource: Its intelligence. People who excel society arent necessary the biggest or strongest or best looking, though these people are often in the top tier. Instead, its those who are just downright smarter. If we go by most valuable figurative resource: Its time. Time is far more universally applicable than freedom or love. Every breath is one breath closer to the end so enjoy it while you can :)
