Mostly no one would ever understand, but I guess they dont have to. If God tapped me on the shoulder, today, and said, Times up. Im taking you home, but heres the deal: You get to choose one day of your life and relive it. I would choose an ordinary day. Not Christmas or Thanksgiving or any particularly special day. Id want ordinary special. Id choose Little Rock one rocking hot summer night when everybody in every government project decided to shoot one another. Id choose to be on the ambulance driving a million miles an hour with Sharon Mac, my paramedic partner, enroute to Granite Mountain to a shooting. We worked a many a shooting at Granite Mountain. Its over past the airport off Annie Mae Bankhead Drive. A shooting takes every ounce of who you are, every ounce of your focus and skill. And you get the intrinsic satisfaction of delivering care to someone who most people dont want to give care to. And you do it because its a human life. And every life is sacred. Its a celebration of life, a reminder that every life counts. And from this day forward, I think Ill think about that every time a loved one leaves this earth. Ill think, wow. They just lived the best day of their lives. And it only gets better from there.
