Mote and FWRI jointly conducted a coastal survey as part of our continuing red tide monitoring and research efforts. This survey covers 20 stations from the mouth of Tampa Bay along the coast to San Carlos Bay. We collect samples for analysis of nutrients, phytoplankton community and brevetoxins and also measure water column properties such as temperature and salinity. By continuing to engage in the monitoring of our coastal waters even when there is no bloom activity, we gain a better understanding of the conditions that are present in the absence of blooms. This helps us to identify the changes that occur that may contribute to, or result from, bloom development. These pictures show the FWRI crew dropping their samples off at the Mote dock with Mote personnel receiving and logging the samples.
