Mother Earth Month Callout! Celebrate Mother Earth Month - April 20-May 20 Earth Day has become a widely celebrated holiday with much-publicised events such as electricity free Earth Hours and large corporate sponsored celebrations. Noted feminist, environmentalist, and physicist, Vandana Shiva has made a call for Earth Day to be reclaimed as Mother Earth Day and extended to include Mothers Day, a day originally intended as a women-led anti-war day of action. The idea behind this is that it needs to be a time when we are all actively engaged in thinking of the Earth as a complex, interconnected, life-giving system with which humans need to create a more balanced, peaceful relationship. She argues it is a time for more meaningful changes and deeper thinking that currently happens on Earth Day. Mantis Arts & Eco Festival has taken up this call and is planning for a series of events aimed at sparking meaningful conversations and inspiring lasting changes that can help to restore a co-operative human relationship with the Earth. We are looking for community partners who would like to plan like-minded events to tie into Mother Earth Month which will be taking place from April 20-May 20. Several exciting events are already planned at the London Public Library and in the community. A poster will be created that will advertise community events happening throughout Mother Earth Month and social media will be used extensively to promote the events. We are hoping to have a diversity of events for people of all ages that highlight issues ranging from energy to transportation to food.
