Mother and daughter arraigned for Le32.5m fraud By Hawa Amara Isatu Conteh and her daughter Margret Conteh were last Friday arraigned before Magistrate Komba Kamanda of the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.2 on four counts of obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone. The prosecution alleges that the duo had on diverse dates – between December 2012 to June 2013 – at different locations collected the sum of Le32.5 million from the complainant, Koyoh Bai Kamara, for the purpose of sale of land situated at Off College Road, Brookfields, Freetown. Defence counsel A.E.J. Ahmed applied for bail, but the prosecution, led by E.S. Banya, vehemently objected to the bail application. However, the magistrate granted bail in the sum of Le50 million to the mother on humanitarian grounds and on account of her age, but refused same to the daughter on the grounds that the charges brought against her are serious. The matter continues.
