Mother, boyfriend charged in childs death + click to enlarge Thanks for reading GwdToday - Everyday! A Newberry County mother and her boyfriend have been charged in the death of a 3-year-old child. Theia Darion McArdle, 21, of Enoree, and Richard Frank Vernon Bowman, 27, of Enoree, have both been charged with homicide by child abuse in connection with the incident. According to officials with the Newberry Police Department, McArdle advertises on BackPage as an escort. McArdle and Bowman left Enoree and went to Newberry after someone responded to McArdle’s escort advertisement. The couple left the Newberry residence sometime after 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. At about 1:30 a.m., McArdle and Bowman arrived at Newberry Memorial Hospital with the unresponsive 3-year-old. Emergency workers at the hospital attempted to revive the child, but were unsuccessful. The child was pronounced dead just after 2 a.m. According to officials, Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton noticed bruising on the child’s head and ordered a full-body scan. The scan and a full autopsy revealed injuries consistent with child abuse. The cause of death, according to Newton, was respiratory depression caused by subdural hemorrhage due to blunt force trauma to the head. Investigators interviewed McArdle and Bowman and the two gave conflicting accounts of what took place in the car after the couple left the residence and arrived at the hospital. The incident remains under investigation by the Newberry Police Department, Newberry County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
