Motor Coordination Monday Good motor coordination is the end - TopicsExpress

Motor Coordination Monday Good motor coordination is the end product of many foundation skills including postural control, motor control, visual processing, sensory processing (mainly touch, proprioception (joint movement awareness) and vestibular (whole body movement awareness)), cognition, and a few other capacities. Each of these skills is controlled by a different part of the brain (or combination of parts). A thorough assessment of motor coordination therefore requires both an assessment of the functional problem e.g. inability to catch a ball; and then an assessment of the foundation skills that support it. Practicing a skill without identifying and treating the foundation issues can be a slow and ineffective way of going about addressing the problem. Cameron Griffiths Occupational Therapist
