Motorists attending the world title boxing match between Carl Frampton and Kiko Martinez on Saturday night (September 6) at the Titanic slipways are advised that a number of traffic restrictions will be in place for a limited time. Commenting on the arrangements, Chief Inspector Norman Haslett said: “Police want everybody to enjoy the event but to maximise enjoyment we would urge everyone to consider their travel arrangements and personal safety. “Up to 14,500 people are expected to attend the event and we have been working closely with our partnership agencies to ensure there is minimal disruption for pedestrians and motorists in the area. “The various traffic restrictions will be in place on the Queen’s Road from 22.00 hours until approximately midnight and motorists who have no reason to use this route are asked to avoid the area. “Those attending the event are encouraged to leave plenty of time for their journey and arrive in good time. Access to the stadium will be via Queen’s Road. All car parks in the vicinity will be operating as normal, parking for coaches is available at Hamilton Road and taxis can drop off as required. “We would ask members of the public to help us by giving thought to traffic and parking arrangements prior to setting off on their journey and by taking common-sense precautions to ensure their safety while at event.” Commenting on plans in place for homeward journeys, Chief Inspector Haslett added: “The priority for police is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone attending this and other events in the vicinity. Pedestrians leaving the event will be given priority right of way over vehicular traffic until police decide it is safe for vehicles to proceed without risk to other road users. This will mean some delays for motorists exiting the car parks and parts of Queen’s Road. We would like to thank everyone in advance for their patience.”
