Mountain Monday everyone! These two are a bit older (from 2012), but I still like them, and they remind me of the bygone days of my youth. Theyre good for this time of year, as they show the icy hand of winter descending upon autumn. Incidentally, these images are another good example of the productive dialectic between planning and chance. I had been following weather forecasts obsessively for two weeks, hoping the snow levels would descend low enough to get to this trail, while not so low that they would complicate my travel. As Im sure most of my readers know, however, snow level forecasts - particularly in Western Washington or the Cascades - are fraught with danger. In this case, if the snow levels had been just a few hundred feet lower than they were, Id have gotten stuck. Just a bit higher, Id have had no snow to photograph (as had happened to me a couple of times in the past year). But it came together in this case!
