Mourinho targeted by the spanish tax authorities First it was Lionel Messi, now it’s Jose Mourinho. Portuguese paper O Jogo have picked up on a story originally released by Spanish radio station Onda Cero, claiming that the Special One is to be investigated by the Spanish tax authorities on suspicion of tax evasion. The revelations were first made public by Julián Redondo, president of the Spanish Association of Sports Press, and so many are taking the story very seriously. Unlike Messi, who was earlier in the week summoned to attend court regarding his Spanish tax issues, no official claims have yet been served against Mourinho. That’s left cynics to argue that the whole tale is a fabrication of a Barcelona-spearheaded agenda looking to deflect attention away from The Flea and onto Real Madrid’s former manager. Moreover, doubts are also widespread that the Spanish tax authorities actually know what they are doing at present. Many believe that the taxman is trying to make examples out of the biggest personalities in Spain, regardless of the merits of the individual cases at hand. In that regard, ESPN has reported that Lionel Messi paid $13.1 million in back taxes, over double what the Spanish tax authorities originally believed he had defrauded them. We’ll wait to see whether any actual charges are brought against Chelsea’s new boss from the Spanish tax authorities. 101greatgoals Andrew
