Mourning is a deep, and deeply human experience. One that transcends the barriers of time and culture. Ive found it comforting and helpful to observe a defined period of mourning, as people across all times and cultures often have. One full trip around the sun. Every season, every event, every part of the year has now been experienced without Josh. This week closes that first year. People mark that time with the clothes they wear, black coverings on their doors, symbolic ways to state that initial time of mourning. Ill end this year in a few ways, public and private. Next week Ill change my Facebook cover photo, to one that isnt of Josh. Ending this year isnt only a marked transition to the rest of our lives living with this loss, its also a fist pump of triumph. We have survived this terrible year, and we can survive the rest of the years. There is no leaving behind Josh, or the grief we feel. We just continue to live. Josh will always be precious. And I will continue to live.
