Move over, Boko Haram. Adherents to the totalitarian Islamic doctrine called shariah have a new victim. She’s a convert to Christianity in Sudan sentenced to be flogged and then hanged for refusing to renounce her adopted faith. This barbaric ruling is made even more appalling because the woman in question, Meriam Ibrahim, is pregnant. Her wheelchair-bound husband, Daniel Wani, is totally dependent upon her care. He also happens to be a naturalized American citizen. And the couple’s first child is a twenty-month-old named Martin, who is imprisoned with his mother. He, too, is an American citizen. Sudan’s Islamist government is arguably the world’s worst pariah regime. Ours is complicit in its shariah supremacism, however, if Washington does nothing to prevent the destruction of Meriam Ibrahim and her family for following Jesus.
