Movement for Youth Empowerment Vision: “Ensuring Youth Participation, Education and Representation” Motto: “Any Programs for Youth without Youth is not for Youth” The Movement for Youth Empowerment attention has been drawn to a Press Release issued by Hon. Alimamy kamara for and on behalf of the Ministry of Youth Affairs against the ongoing Sanitation and Cleaning Exercise to prevent cholera, malaria and typhoid attack at the Kroo Bay and 17 other deprived communities, with potential job opportunities for 1,500 youths. This project is funded by the World Food Programme, World Vision, Plan International and BRAC and implemented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Freetown City Council and the Western Area District Youth Council. The Movement for Youth Empowerment is hereby informing the General Public, International Community, Donors and Civil Society that Hon. Alimamy Kamara seems to have lose focus and should be reminded that last year cholera outbreak killed close to 400 persons and led to the establishment of a Presidential Task Force. He is also trying to kill the vision of His Execellency, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and his promise to do more for the youth as he thinks the Ministry of Youth Affairs was created for him to farm money from donors. He Press Release is also showing that he cares less for the youth of this country. The Movement for Youth Empowerment is therefore condemning his Press Release and calling on the potential beneficiaries to continue their normal work and we will inform them if there is any need to mobilize and walk to State House with families as additional beneficiaries in order to ensure that this project is sustained. In line with transparency the Movement for Youth Empowerment will like to ask Hon. Alimamy Kamara the following questions: 1. What is his contribution in the form of initiative to the Ministry of Youth Affairs since his appointment? 2. What is the status of the $30,000 donation to the Ministry for Youth Farms? 3. When will Hon. Alimamy Kamara get the National Youth Commission to publish expenditures with list of beneficiaries under the Youth Employment Support Project, $ 20 million dollars Project? 4. Why did the Hon. Alimamy Kamara not advertise the Youth Programme in Benin and how did he go about in making selections? 5. Why did Hon. Alimamy Kamara decide to use participant in Freetown and pay them DSA as if they travelled from the provinces to attend the Leadership Workshop on the 24th July, 2013? 6. Whose idea and lobbying skills led to the entire furniture’s and equipments donation at the Ministry of Youth Affairs? 7. How the Minister of Youth Affairs did select the contractors for repairs and who is the owner of the Company? We would like to inform the public that Hon. Alimamy Kamara is fully aware of the project and was even briefed by several donors including the Country Representative of WFP but it seems the Minister had wanted cash.
