Movie Review - HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 Release Date: 11/12/14 Rating: MA15+ Director: Sean Anders Stars: Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Jennifer Aniston, Christoph Walz, Chris Pine, Jamie Foxx & Kevin Spacey Run Time: 108 min’s Score (out of 10): 6½ Every time I walk into a sequel I ask myself the same question - if movies were JUST about entertainment (as opposed to the single-mindedly $$-focus of greedy movie studios), would this film have ever been made? Invariably, the answer is “No.” Don’t get me wrong - I quite enjoyed the 1st Horrible Bosses. There were sufficient enough low-brow laughs to justify its existence … but there was no way we needed a 2nd helping. Well too bad; it’s here. So is it worth seeing Bateman, Sudeikis & Day take their turn at being bosses? Well not if you’re paying full price. But if you just want a dumb, disposable laugh on Tight Ass Tuesday, then HB2 could be just what the doctor ordered. This time around the boys have taken a step back from murder & are only attempting kidnapping. But Dale, Kurt & Nick being Dale, Kurt & Nick; naturally their entrepreneurial efforts tank when they get into bed with an evil business mogul (Waltz) & his son (Pine). Foxx returns as murder/kidnapping ‘consultant’ MoFo Jones, as well as Aniston as the depraved psycho dentist Julia. Both are solid here. And extra props to the costume designer who sourced Dr Julia’s … ah… necklace!! Look, whilst Bateman, Sudeikis & Day all click well together, the film falls flat far too often. And let’s be honest - no one’s going to remember too much about HB2 5 min’s after they’ve seen it. It’s definitely not trying capture Oscar’s attention, but is simply more of the same for those who enjoyed the original.
