Movie Review #22: Gone Girl Gone Girl is based upon the bestselling novel by Gillian Flynn and it stars Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris & Tyler Perry. The film is about a married couple, Nick (Affleck) and Amy (Pike) who have been married for a long five years. With their marriage at stake, Amy has gone missing and the entire world soon accuses Nick of killing his wife. When Nicks world around him starts to crumble, secrets and more secrets are revealed about their marriage that have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne murder his wife? I was very surprised by this film. From the trailers, I was expecting a light headed decent mystery film. But what I actually got was an insane two hour film that keeps you thinking throughout the entire film. The film has a great cast, and they all deliver great performances, except for Neil Patrick Harris. Even Tyler Perry was great. I mean why am I saying this? Its nice to see him not dress up as a woman for once. The story is great and from what you hear, it doesnt seem like much, but the film is full of plot twists and turns that keep you thinking about what happened to her. Pike is perfect as Amy and Affleck is great as Ben. The films plot twists are unexpected and I was totally wrong about the mystery. This film has an amazing screenplay and has such a unique soundtrack. This film has AMAZING character development and the last fifteen minutes may be weird, but I liked it. I know the book probably explained the ending more but it needed more sense, but I still liked it. This film is an Oscar worthy, underrated drama mystery, just like last years Prisoners. The length of this film doesnt bother me at all to be honest, and the film is hard to follow in a good way because of all of the twists. This film is so entertaining and the film is so twisted and odd in all the right ways. The directing and style of this film is absolutely fantastic along with the cinematography and the film had me at the edge of my seat and it was perfectly tense in all the right scenes. (Review continued in comments) Its also very interesting and it never loses its self or the attention of the audience and has great characters with great interest and great development. Overall, Gone Girl is a fantastic film with a rewatchability factor that lots of other films dont. However, it is for an older audience to watch and I had to close my eyes several times. Recommendation: Most Defiantly! Rating: 9.5/10 Grade: A
