Movie Review: The Counselor (2013) – This is a thriller film by director Ridley Scott starring Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz and Brad Pitt. The story revolves around the main character which is only referred to as Counselor. The Counselor seeks to set up a huge one time drug trafficking investment which through his many connections decides against reason in a huge pay off which he plans to marry his fiancé. Complications arise due to greed which results in the death of a few people involved with the Counselor. As the cartel directs its attention on the Counselor for the complications for the drug trafficking across the Mexican boarder to its delivery point, the Counselor must attempt to save himself from the cartel’s vengeance. The movie is actually quite interesting in its narrative storytelling. There is a certain aspect of not really knowing to much about the characters and focusing more on dialogue between the characters about love, greed and death. The story deals with the consequences of our actions and the human nature’s basic instincts. The story grips you and you’re drawn in but through the dialogue and intense visual storytelling. I’d have to say it’s a very impressive movie by Ridley Scott and if you’re a fan of his other films, this is definitely a great addition to his films. I’d give it a 3 ½ out of 4 stars and recommend a viewing of this film with a great performance by the entire cast.
