Movie review - MISHAWR RAHASYA... When I saw the first bomkesh bakshi part 1 by anjan dutta I was very dissapointed. Mishawr Rahasya has also dissapointed .... and actualy even more since is directed by Srijit who mesmerized us with 22SHE SRABON and HEMLOCK SOCEITY. At the very start, the accent with which the guide speaks about the tomb in the opening scene felt like forced articulation. Accent is not just about emphasized pronunciation of the alphabet T whem it comes to egyptian. The arabic influence could not be felt at all.. except by Indraneil who seems to have done some research. The camera movements were good overall however in some of the scenes particularly the action ones being shot in slow motion might feel unnecessary or lacking something to achieve the overall objective. Multiple angle view super slow motion capture needed to capture the cinematic drama behind it. I felt if these scenes were shot in the lines of the acton scenes from Robert Downey Jr starrer Sherlock Holmes part 1.. then it would have been a pleasure. Particularly the individual combat scenes of kakababu. Sontu was good. The young actor has pottential. At this point one towering question.... Why did we have Swashtika and Neel. All the scenes that were shot with them were unnecessary and infested with substandard dialogues. The dialogues were written in somewhat hurry and was one of the key dissapointments from the film. Just imagine Qadi and Kakababu screaming Inquilaab Zindabad to each other. There is a thin redline between cinematic drama and a melodramatic overdose and this being the latter.. The intentions of the romantic scenes of Sontu could be understood but it took away the seriousness of the film. And so did the disastrous comedy scenes of Neel and Swastika. Boombada ... prasenjit did very good... although I would have loved to see something like... kakababus struggle to walk and yet his determination to accomplish. This could have been captured beautifully in the action scene between Kakababu and Mamon.... prasenjit and rajit kapoor. The scenes between indraneil and prasenjit were good. But could have been great. Stayajit rays Agantuk had a famous scene between Utpal Dutt and Dhrtiman which was a debate on the comparison of brutality of the cannibals in Africa and the human civilizat the modern world where man uses atom bombs to destroy and kill millions of innocent lives. I expected a similar debate ... with references to Che Guevara.. terrorism etc.... with an approach of a political satire. Rajit kapoor looked more like an aspiring actor who has just started to act. Nowhere will you feel that he is a veteran. More could have been done with the primary egyptian plot of the story. One could have spoken about a hidden code where Pir baba indicts Mamon. Indraneils performance may be mathematically correct ... however if the character would have been approached with a clam soft yet fearsome approach... then the quick switch of the tone from calm to rage and back, would have been great. Imagine the sudden burst of anger in a character like a sheikh war lord who speaks at a low volume. Indraneil is very much capable to do that brilliantly. The background music was lacking everything. I was expecting a theme music to be introduced... it did not happen. The music felt good only in the night bonfire scene... I liked the angle of the egyptian revolution of the recent times being used ... kakababu using Tablet...I liked the scene between the rocks of delhi where prasenjit stands and accepts the challenge as kakababu to go to egypt. The other scene being technically correct and great to watch was Qadi (indraneil) running away ... kakababu walks back and stares at running away Qadi. Onething must be understood that in a plot like this ... one cannot let go off the research needed. I expected Srijit of all would know this. Secondly the main plot should never be compromised and on the contrary should be worked upon more in case the original novel has certain limitations. Novels are not written for the screen. That is the function of a screenplay. While writing a screen play from a novel one must remember that changes should do justice to the primary plot or make it more interesting. It is the reason perhaps in the Oscars... you have two categories.... 1. BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY and 2. BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY. I hope the next kakababu would rise up.
