Movie review: Texas Buyers Club Anyone that tells you this is just another movie about AIDS in the 80s is doing you and this film a great disservice. And despite its appearances, its not really about AIDS or HIV. Its about the FDA and the medical profit industry and their disservice to the patients that need them most. Halfway through the film it gut-punched me in the solar plexus (or maybe a bit higher in my heart) as I realized it was also the same for my moms cancer, my roomies mothers Alzheimers, and every other disease crippling patients. Its about how the FDA aids and abets in corporate profits while they block our personal attempts at healing. Matthew McConaughey pulls a tremendous physical transformation as a dislikable man dying of AIDS, who somehow finds a way for it to take many years, doing good work along the way. His performance is the Oscar bait weve been waiting for from him. Jared Leto is also very good in a supporting role, and should get nominated as well. A-
