Alan Orange While its entirely possible that we havent seen the last of Darth Vader, especially with his shadow looming large over a small band of freedom fighters in the upcoming animated series Star Wars Rebels, James Earl Jones, the man behind the voice of this iconic sci-fi villain, claims he is done with the character. Talking with Variety in support of the filmed release of the Driving Miss Daisy stage revival, James Earl Jones had this to say about returning to that galaxy far, far away. Oh no. Ive got no illusions that I will or even hankerings to be in them, but Im very proud to have been part of the original. Will he at least see the new Star Wars: Episode VII? Perhaps. I have no idea where theyll go with it, but I hope they sustain the success of the first ones and do it well. Its well known that Darth Vader (spoiler alert!) met his demise in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. And his Force Ghost is now played by Hayden Christensen. So it wouldnt make any sense for James Earl Jones to return in the new trilogy. But the stand-alone movies are a different story. The Untitled Star Wars Han Solo Spin-Off and Untitled Star Wars Boba Fett Spin-Off likely take place during a time when Darth Vader was still alive. And Darth was Bobas employer for a stint. If the galaxys most feared villain is going to return to the big screen, it will be here. On the TV side of things, it was reported a while back that there would be two Darth Vader TV Specials leading up to the launch of Star Wars Rebels, but we havent heard anything in regards to that in over a year. Darth will probably be a part of Star Wars Rebels, but it looks like he may be getting a new, younger voice. Or, James Earl Jones just hasnt been asked back yet. The actor did recently play himself in an episode of The Big Bang Theory, where he was joined by fellow co-star Carrie Fisher. Will he really end his Star Wars legacy on that note? Star Wars: Episode VII comes to theaters December 18th, 2015 and stars Gwendoline Christie, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Domhnall Gleeson, Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyongo, Oscar Isaac.
