Moving exchange between Julie Guillot, who lost her 9-year-old son - TopicsExpress

Moving exchange between Julie Guillot, who lost her 9-year-old son Zach to leukemia earlier this year, and Amazons Jeff Bezos, whose family just donated $20 million to the Hutch. Heres what she posted on her Facebook page: With one stroke of a pen, people like Amazon founder Jeff Bezos can help move mountains. I felt compelled to write him an e-mail today thanking him for his HUGE donation to fund cancer immunotherapy research at The Fred Hutch. I feel like this probably was an assistant that responded to the email, though someone at the Hutch thinks he might have responded himself...regardless, THANKS to all of those big givers...KEEP GIVING! You sound like a wonderfully positive person. I think Zach was lucky to have you, and I bet you were lucky to have him too. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- On April 7, 2014, at 10:01AM, Julie Guillot wrote: Mr. Bezos – I read today that the Bezos family just gave a substantial gift to the Fred Hutch. I am writing today to say THANK YOU. I lost my 9 year old son to complications following a 3rd bone marrow transplant for acute myeloid leukemia on February 7th of this year. Our family moved from Texas to Seattle seeking advanced/cutting-edge therapy for my son’s aggressive cancer. The Fred Hutch accepted my son’s “impossible” case, offering him a chance at life with a tailored, novel third transplant because he was in such excellent condition. We are forever grateful to The Hutch, and are so happy to see your family supporting an underfunded hub of research excellence! Although we certainly cannot give at your level, we have given substantial funds (for our family’s situation) to advance leukemia immunotherapy for children in Dr. Phil Greenberg’s lab. His lab will be dedicated to my son, Zach, in a month or two. Cancer is such a horrible disease…and watching your child die at such a young age is beyond words. I just had to stop and say THANK YOU. Keep up the good work – we noticed! We are loyal Amazon customers…your Amazon Fresh service was so valuable during our son’s treatment.
