Mr. Argyle By Robert R. Railey Once upon a time there was a sock who suddenly found himself all alone in the drawer that he’d once shared with his lovely mate He knew, of course, that the washday had already come and gone; but where was Mr. Argyle’s sole mate, he asked? Though while looking around, still confused and quite lonely, he espied a forlorn looking creature which had been shoved roughly to the rear of the drawer Not even of the same color or texture, he mused, for she appeared to be of an ash-blonde essence whereas he was a mixture of completely different hues And not only were they complete opposites, it seemed, but she appeared to have a run in the calf of her otherwise beautiful nylon leg Could he ever learn to love her, he wondered? For hadn’t he always heard that the twain shall never mate But then not to be too easily dissuaded, he struck up a conversation with the lonely girl whom he now found to be very lovely
