Mr. Berry just emailed this out about Winter Camping: Dear SAEL 10th grade families, As I write this email, our winter camping experience on Mt. Rose is going ahead as planned. This decision is based on several factors. First and foremost, reliable weather models and reports provide the greatest clarity and currently tell us that the North Eastern section of the Tahoe Basin will receive 1-2 feet of dry snow. This will not negatively impact our ability to safely camp or travel. I am also very pleased to report that low wind levels have also been forecast. In addition to the snow and weather forecasts, I have a teacher and adventure coordinator for a fellow EL school checking snow levels at 7am tomorrow morning at our entry point on Mt. Rose. This report, combined with the current snow report, will provide a very clear picture as to the conditions upon our arrival around 11.30am. I have also taken into consideration equipment and gear that each student has, and what equipment SAEL has provided students to ensure student stay dry and warm. Some websites and data sources we are consulting include, but are not limited to: opensnow/dailysnow/tahoe weather.gov Our Durham bus is chain equipped and we are in regular contact with them regarding their own weather and road reporting. Further more, our base camp was selected because of its straight forward access along a well protected fire road. Our campsite location is a protected meadow with good tree coverage, and with the low winds expected, will serve as an ideal camp location. Weather and snow reports will be monitored closely, and a final decision made at 7am tomorrow morning. I will reach out to all families once more at that time. For Students: Please remember to sign and bring waivers to school tomorrow. Students should arrive dressed ready in snow gear. If they have gear already at school they can change as soon as they arrive. If possible, please drop students at school earlier tomorrow. I will be here from 7.45 onwards. Our bus leaves at 9.30am.
