Mr. Don Meek, who was then the athletic director at LHS, established the Louisburg High School Wrestling program in 1969. In its inaugural season, only one of the 21 student athletes came to the program with previous experience in wrestling. That first year was a rocky one, with the Wildcats going 0-8 in dual competitions. Only one wrestler, 98-pound junior Vince Whitehouse, placed at the District meet and moved on to Regionals.
