Mr. Harrington, there are many Adams residents who are frankly frustrated by several issues. Its primarily issue of commons sense. When you say that our tax rate includes sewer costs, thats true. But it doesnt include street lighting and fire, as well as trash pickup. Both of those expenses are born by the Adams taxpayers via separate bills from separate entities. We have the Memorial School that was deemed unfit for school children, yet it was fine to accommodate them for the year of rebuilding at Hoosac. And now that we have an exceptional high school, its housing a dwindling population of students whose population is projected to decrease substantially over the next decade. There are multiple vacant store fronts in town, nothing is happening to the Armory building or the two large blocks on Park St......quite a visual effect for our towns people and anyone coming into town. One of the best departments in town is the highway department. I can truly say, after living many years in the Pioneer Valley and the Berkshires, Adams is top notch in street repair and snow removal. So Mr. Harrington, it is a visual problem and a common sense problem. It is quite normal residents to question those who are elected into office, be it a part-time or full-time position. Your explanation of the differing criteria on Memorial School is quite understandable, but does it make common sense? To procure grants from the state and federal government, it is true that Adams must comply with certain rules and codes, particularly with building projects. But, gee wizz.....where is the common sense? Cant our elected state officials see what state mandates are doing to the lowly people whom they serve? Where is the common sense?
