Mr Jellybean wrote asking about what you have successfully lost in the canals. The other side of the coin would be to enquire what have you been lucky to have found in the canal. I have kept a list of items that I have seen placed for recycling in and around or floating on our Canals and Rivers. I remember thinking at the time that maybe the trusts name should have been the Canal and River Tip. Here is my current treasure trove list, you may have others. Television sets, Computer monitors, Oil drums, Bed mattresses, Used nappies. The ever present plastic Dog Poo bags complete with canine content. There are also the ever colourful selection of Plastic shopping bags in many shades of corporate logo and colours. Plastic bottles, Plastic containers and Paint tins of every hue. Old bikes, Childs trike, Sunken boats, Glass bottles , Beer cans, Cardboard boxes, Settee, Arm chair, Kitchen table, Bar stool, Kitchen chair, Kitchen stool (wood) Kitchen sink ,Fridge freezer and even a Bath (plastic). Not forgetting the ever present Shopping trolleys without which our canals would lose part of its National identity. I still think should have been the trusts new logo! However, there were also Shopping baskets, Wheelie bins usually minus the wheels? as well as the usual household Dustbins. There were the more worrying Oil spills and even Asbestos sheets. We have also observed a Motor scooter, Motorcycles and even several Cars. Plus collected on the prop were Sacks, Wire (various), Fishing Line, Tarpaulin, Rope, Coats, Conveyor belt, Tyres and an Inner tube. The more unusual have included Fire extinguisher, Polystyrene Bean Filled Bags (50 plus) Electrical Cable Reel (plastic and wood) and the bane of inner city carparks Condoms and Sanitary Towels. We have also come across Dead dog, Dead cat, Dead fox, Dead rabbit Dead hedgehog and Dead deer. So far we have been lucky to avoid the dead body but Im sure its only a matter of time.
