Mr. Lloyd and Wanda Thomas will celebrate 70 beautiful years of marriage the 8th of January 2015. They met in 1941, when they were both in high school, in Flat, Texas. Wanda was the new girl in town, and she bet the girls in her class a Coke, that she could get a date with Lloyd, the handsome 6 foot-tall star, of their high schools six man football team. The romance was an absolute hit, after they enjoyed the Coke that he actually helped her win, being that he had been tipped off of the bet! A couple of years later he entered the service in 1943, and was shipped overseas. Before he went, she wanted to make sure he had a ring on his finger when he got to Paris! Throughout the course of his professional career he was a coach and high school principal of several small town schools in Texas; before they moved their family to Duncanville in 1973; where they still reside today. He later worked for and retired from the Dallas County Community College District, and has had several jobs since then. Of all those jobs, driving old Limos all over the country was his favorite because he could take Wanda with him! She retired from a local veterinarians office and was very active in First Baptist Church of Duncanville and the WMU board of Texas for many years. They have a lovely family of four children, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. They are a true model of what a Christian Marriage should be, and have been an influence for many of their younger family members in showing the true meaning of love. When asked the difference their marriage has from so many others, Wanda will tell you that when they both said, I DO...THEY DID. Lloyd suffered a stroke in November of 2012, but is doing remarkably well, and his life-long love, Wanda, is still by his side everyday, in the home they have built here in Duncanville, Texas.
