Mr Milan Dutta has given a timely reminder to the cocooned educated Muslims and a clarion call to understand the social dynamics. Muslims in Bengal have never resorted to identity politics. They never elected the likes of Siddikulla in the elections. They elect the most eligible candidates from among the mainstream political parties. Muslim league,jamate islami etc have never been their choice. Mr Shamik Bhattacharyya won from a constituency where 63% electorate are Muslims. Had there been a Muslim consolidation, Mr Shamik Bhattacharyya would have lost. In his own admission, he got a sizable amount of Muslim votes. After the recent khagragor incidence,there is murmur of identity politics. This identity led Muslims to organize a protest march under the guise of sanhati manch. The manch was hijacked by Siddikulla and the media projected it as a fit case for Muslim support for terrorism. When there was Mumbai terrorist attack many masjids arranged special prayer for safety of the hostages. People understood that the prayer was hold for safety of the Pakistani terrorists. The Hindu Muslim divide was not done recently, it was very well there since the last one century. If Muslims organize any protest march that has two worst kind of repercussions: 1. It can be identified as a quest for new identity 2. It can be hijacked by Muslim communalists. The greatest misfortune of bengalis is the leaders of secular parties barring congress have a tendency to project religious leaders as face of Muslims in Bengal. Tell me who is Toha siddiqui? Who is barkati? Who are these imran, sultan, iqbal ? Do they represent the agrarian Bengali Muslims? Why people like Hosenur Rahman are not projected by politicians? Compare the Christian representative Mr OBrien with these bearded medieval brutes and you will come to know of the evil designs of the parties. I had been associated with inception of two organization/platforms for educated Muslims. Both have been hijacked by self seeking Muslims communalists. No organization can break the age old Hindu Muslim amity overnight. There can be temporary setbacks. There is no use opening up flood gates of Muslim identity. It will lead to another disaster. All peace loving people will resist communal designs, whoever its master minds can be.
