Mr Morrison claimed that the level of concern within the Australian community about immigration numbers was at its lowest since the 1970s. Im afraid Id have to agree with Morrison for once, most Australians are happy with our treatment and processing of asylum seekers. A large number of them wouldnt mind if the minister did what theyve been chanting all these years anyway and sent them all back where they came from. That might well be Morrisons agenda with his proposed amendments to the Migration Act. Its not just a WASP attitude, some of the most bigoted are those who came here as boat refugees 30 years, or another generation ago. And many Anglo Australians still have those inherent traits of xenophobia, a paranoia about being isolated at the bottom of the world and subject to invasion etc., and an us and them view of the world. Fortunately, legislators dont always follow the vox populi and its great to see that at least a few if not several of those Senators who will be passing or blocking Morrisons Bill are prepared to look at the facts, consider the wider humanitarian impacts and think for themselves. Some, like Bob Day, are a lost cause. But many of the others remain undecided and the coming weeks will be crucial in lobbying efforts to inform, educate and persuade those senators to NOT give the Monster Minister the absolute power he has asked for. smh.au/federal-politics/political-news/turnback-policy-here-to-stay-morrison-20141108-11j4yw.html#ixzz3IWEryG7X
