Mr. Norman Samuel Johnson, Sr., 79, of Cartersville, GA passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2013. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 2:00PM at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Ed Rhodes, Officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 22, 2013 from 7:00 – 8:00PM at Mack Eppinger Funeral Home. Norman Samuel Johnson, Sr., 79 years young was born to the union of the late Nancy Mae & Samuel Johnson. He was the first born child to this union; second born, the late Peggy Ann and the baby, Melvin Johnson. He was known to many by the nickname of “Shindig.” He joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was very active in the Male Chorus, participated in other church activities, and distinctively awarded “Father of The Year” by Mt. Zion. Norman was educated in Cartersville, Georgia, a Summer Hill Blue Devils football player and graduated with the Class of 1954. After high school, he joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged after 18 months. In 1957, Norman married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Ann McDow. Norman worked for Young Brothers Pharmacy as a courier supporting his family and later became a small business entrepreneur. He later landed a job with Lockheed ARA Food Services as a coffee service attendant, later advancing to storeroom supervisor. He continued to climb the corporate ladder and was later promoted to Assistant Food Service Director until he retired after 35 years. After retirement with ARA, he went to work for Cosco of Cartersville as a shift supervisor. He retired again, but did not stop there. He purchased some houses and renovated them. Norman was very skilled with his hands and could build and repair anything. Norman was preceded in death by his parents Nancy Mae & Sam Johnson and sister, Peggy Ann Johnson James. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted and loving wife, Beverly Ann; daughter, Alfreda (Joe) Sullivan, son, Norman Jr., grand children, Vermica, Dustin, Jerrod, and Raven; brother, Melvin (Mary Alice) Johnson; Sister, Rose (Allen) Spivey; nieces, Patrice, Terica, Monique, Kristy, and Shelby; nephews, Brian, Joey, Reggie, Jimmy, and Kirk; sister-in-law: Miriam (Frank) Henderson; brother-in-law: Ambrose (Mary) McDow, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
