Mr. Roy Salter of Hwy 153, Samson, Alabama passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014. He was 67. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Lewis Harper officiating. Burial will follow in the Earlytown Church of Christ Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and continue until service time. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Roy Salter Memorial Fund, c/o Samson Banking Company, 2 West Main Street, Samson, AL 36477. Mr. Salter was born May 5, 1947, in Coffee County, Alabama to the late Bennie Collie and Alma Lamb Salter. He was a very hard worker, loved by everyone and never met a stranger. Roy enjoyed raising a variety of show chickens. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, nine siblings: Collie, Henry, Douglas, Leslie, Charles, Howard, and Carl Jr. Salter, Alice Metz and Ruth Salter, all preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Shawn Salter; two daughters: Sherri (Mark) Young, and Amber Nevels; one son, Joey Salter, all of Samson; one brother, Marvin (Sandra) Salter, Marl Community; three sisters: Doris Scott, Gantt, Ellen (Roger) Stephens, Samson, and Margaret Crocker, Chancellor; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert White, Charles McCray, Michael McCray, Roger Williams, Corsey Peters and Roger Kilpatrick.
