Mr Sossion has been the face of Knut since 2011. A good public speaker who drives his messages home with amazing ease, he is more visible than the Union’s Secretary General (SG), who ideally should be the Spokesperson of the union. Compared to past Knut national chairmen such as the late John Katumanga, Joseph Chirchir and his immediate predecessor George Wesonga, Sossion is outspoken on union issues, due to what some opine are his daring courage and passion to articulate issues of his membership. “I do not feel threatened speaking for my members and no one has ever threatened me. What I do are within the confines of the labour movement,” affirms Sossion. Knut Second Vice-National Chairman, Mr Wycliffe Omucheyi, describes Sossion as a team player who has held the union together not only at the head office, but all the 210 branches countrywide. Knut achievements “At the national office, we work as a team under the chairman and secretary general and what we have so far achieved for teachers of this country are out of collective efforts of both the national office and branch leadership,” notes Omucheyi. In what could demonstrate Sossion’s passion for his work, he says his highest moment as a unionist is when teachers achieve what they want. “Some of the achievements have been the recruitment of 18,060 contract teachers as permanent employees and attainment of harmonisation of basic salaries of teachers with that of civil servants last year,” says Sossion.
