Mr Speaker I kept advising my comrades in PF that they need to seat at a round table and strike a deal between Team EL and Team MS. It seems they have made progress on this front with the reported reconciliation facilitate by Pastor J Banda. This has sent jubilation through Team EL, without taking a step back as to what this actually means for their campaign. For me true reconciliation will only come when MS withdraws his actions from the Courts, and EL agree to reserve certain portfolios for MS and Co. Without such agreement, this remains a lose arrangement that can fall apart easily, more so, if MS is successful with his court action. Now assuming that MS wins his court action, will the jubilant Team EL rally behind Team MS? The answer to this question should tell you how strong this recon is. Another matter to consider is Scott and Government resources. Despite repeated denials by EL and Co. that they dont need Scott and Government resources, truth of the matter is that they do and the campaign literally ground to a halt with Scott taking a hard line stance to guard taxpayer money and leave a legacy of overseeing what could have been the first free and fair elections in Zambia. The question is, if Scott maintains this hard line stance and wont allow the abuse of taxpayer money by the EL campaign, will the EL team resume their racial attacks, votes of no confidence, disrespect, boycott of cabinet that Scott has been put through in the last 2 months? The answer to this question will reveal how strong the recon really is. Finally is the Fred Mmembe cartel factor. He was not party to the reconciliation but it is assumed his invisible hand was present and party. For the recon to hold, we expect to see Mmembe tone down and shift his editorial policy towards the EL campaign. We also expect to see EL cease the homophobic attacks and insinuations as well as demands to recover monies owed by Mmembe on behalf of tax payers. Will the Cartel be welcomed in the Team EL? The answer to this question will definitely be the litmus test for the strength of the recon. From my point of view, the recon is the best thing to happen to Zambia if it holds as the peace we enjoyed was hanging in the balance. Well done PF on this positive move, and we only hope it is genuine an holds till 20 January 2015. In the meantime, Zambia Forward 👋
