Mr. Voris makes some good points here. For "objective truth" you could substitute "natural law," which was taken for granted by 18th-century Americans and is the basis for our Constitution and Bill of Rights. But since many Americans, perhaps most, no longer accept the natural law as given, our "rights" have become free-floating, dependent on the definition and redefinition of words like "marriage."
