Mrs Eseza Makumbi. (1918-2014). Aged 96. Paid our last respect to her and joined multitudes to celebrate her life today in Seeta Mukono where she was laid to rest. #ShareWorthy 1. She was a Columnist in the Uganda Argus from 1952 up to its last issue with a Weekly Opinion piece on Uganda politics and society. An avid reader and writer, She wrote her first book in Gayaza High in 1932-still on book selves there to date. Wow! 2. Upon acting a co-lead role in the award winning 1945 American film Men of Different Worlds, She was offered several roles to enhance her career in Hollywood and she turned them down to return and serve her family and country. So Patriotic. 3. Mrs Makumbi was appointed First Woman in the LegCo (Legislative Council) with three others in 1958. A self made politician and leader. She traversed Uganda campaigning for the UPC/ KY alliance in the 1960s. She was later Member of the East African Legislative Assembly nominated by President Milton Obote- again as the first woman. WoW! 4. She enrolled for a computer Diploma in London in 1981 insisting that Computers and technology were the future of the world and did not want to be left behind the new world. WoW!! 5. Notable attendees were former Buganda Katikiro Peter Muliira who is the actually her younger brother, politicians, educated people, the family is amazing and there was a massive representation from the church as she was a devoted practicing Christian who together with the husband contributed so much to the church and schools especially in Mukono. 6. What an inspirational life. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
