Mrs Lulu Mfazwe- Mojapelo, Dr Rosalia Nakin and Dr Elias Mabuza: Community engagement : Department of African Languages Christmas came early for learners at Bekekayo Combined School when the Department of African Languages, through its Community Engagement Committee, delivered goodies for them at the Ekurhuleni Regional Service Centre. These are mostly clothes, donated by staff in the department. Dr Bunki Pitsoane, the project coordinator and student counsellor at the Ekurhuleni RSC had this to say “This is going to make their Christmas whole. I am elated and touched by this gesture.” Bekekayo, a farm school just outside Daveyton, is the university’s community engagement project under the care of Ekurhuleni RSC. The regional centre has recently signed a partnership agreement on community engagement with the Department of African Languages. The donation of goodies made by the latter is one of several other ways in which the region and the department collaborate to make a difference in the lives of learners at Bekekayo Combined School.
