Mrs. Mary L. Hopson, age 87, of Jonesborough, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013, in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Hopson was a native of Sullivan County. She was the daughter of the late Julia Dotson Penix. In addition to her mother, one son, Robert “Bobby” Hopson; two daughters, Jerrie Staten and Billy Ruth Hopson; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Hopson; three brothers, James Dotson, Albert Dotson and Arvil Penix also preceded her in death. Mrs. Hopson was a homemaker. She attended Roan Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include her loving husband of sixty-six years, Frank Hopson; one daughter, Barbara Mead and her husband Ed; two sons, Lester Hopson and Jim Hopson and his wife Teresa; eight grandchildren, Melissa Richardson and her husband Houston, Kimberly Semco and her husband Tj, Rebecca Mead, Kristi “KC” Gott and her husband Roger, Joseph Hopson and his wife Stephanie, Katheryn “Kadi” Fish and her husband Alan, Jamie Hopson and his wife Robin and Frankie Hopson; eleven great grandchildren; many special nieces and nephews; special daughter-in-law, Connie Hopson Sluss and grandson, Matthew. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff and nurses on the 5300 floor of the Johnson City Medical Center. The funeral service for Mrs. Mary L. Hopson will be conducted at 7 PM Friday, August 2, 2013, in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Pastor Charlie Scalf will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Friday prior to the service.
