Ms. Jamaica said something again that touched my heart. She said my hair may not be the long tresses like the top women youve picked but that shouldnt define my beauty. Now with that said look at these women below. The first is Ms.Ghana with her identifying banner, her name is Abena Appiah. The second is still her enjoying the event poolside.The contestant that was most shocked when Ms. Jamaica didnt place higher or win was Ms.Kenya, Gaylyne Ayuba. Her head was down in shame as she reluctantly applauded the higher placing contestants. This sends a message world wide to Black women who may risk their lives since most of their countries are Muslim. They fight the beauty Queen ideals of the rest of the world to compete on a international stage just as if they were Olympic Athletes. I was also ashamed as they and all Black women were not even considered…Ms.Jamiaca encapsulated all these womens sentiment. I wonder if thats why she had her hair cut to have solidarity with her sisters.
