Ms. Woodie, Ms. Hubbard, and Ms. Johnson, Today, 8/17/2014, my client, a Wounded Warrior with severe PTSD and TBI, went to this Petsmart – store #211 - Manager Arturo – they harassed my client and so did one of the clerks. They actually said that I was not allowed to train in their store with this Wounded Warrior and his Service Dog. I am calling the police this minute and filing a police report for harassment, as I said would be the next steps I am taking. Laurie A. Gawelko, M.S Police called at approximately 1:50 pm. Police were given information by me about name, home address, and phone number of client. Are on their way to make police report for harassment. I also called Manager Arturo, who acknowledged speaking with client. He and the clerk denied any harassment. I told him I didnt care to hear a word he said - that this has happened over and over - and that I was immediately calling the police to have client file a police report and also gave police location and name of Petsmart where harassment took place. Emailed Petsmart Corporate at 2:03 to let them know police report filed. Will email them again with Police Report number. NO MORE TOLERANCE OF THIS. MY POOR CLIENT IS A WRECK!!! Police arrived at approximately 2:15 at clients house, report #SAPD14180760 file by officer badge #0204, Officer Grenado. Client spoke with officer, who the got on the phone with me and said he would file a report but Petsmart, as a PRIVATE business, has the right under federal law to deny Service Dogs or Service Dog trainers due to their discretion, citing the First Amendment! Both client and I recited and showed them ADA federal law card which clearly defines Service Dog rights, but officer, despite my telling him that he does clearly NOT know ADA law, should be taking care of this as it is a misdemeanor and is clearly a violation of federal law, said, I suggest that your client or you hire an attorney to file a civil case and the police dont have to be involved in this! I am now calling his supervisor at the police department, at 210-207-8101.
