Mtg #1 at the Mayors office for the Resolution: It was a great meeting, in my estimation of how things went. I was hoping that the person I was meeting would be young so that there was a chance he would have room to hear what really is as opposed to knowing what is. He was awesome. Matt and I talked for about 30 minutes instead of 15. I explained everything to him in a way that was both mortifying and exquisitely easy to hear and understand. He was riveted. I showed him the scales and how they all weighed in favor of life over death, of closure over remaining open. He got. All of it. Then he asked me how exactly by voting to support the Resolution to shut down CGS, would affect anything in WA. He asked for a diagram to see how the process might help and said that theres no way the City Council will vote yes if they cant really make a difference. Understood, I told him. I will have his diagrams tomorrow along with a right up of all possible chain reactions coming from the support of closure from Portland. Called Chuck and am going to his house in the AM to do this. He was particularly interested in the packets of articles I brought. I told him that there are volumes but he should start with these. He noticed the dates. They are from this week and last. He said, Wow, these are very current! to which I replied, Yes, and there are more CGS Events daily which have the full potential to kill us all in the Pacific NW, ID, MT and far beyond that and I mentioned the plutonium find in Denmark from Fuk found recently... I had time to tell him about everything...from what a dam breach will mean to the cooling waters, to explosions and meltdowns and earthquakes and 56 million gallons of highly radioactive waste 10 miles across the dirt at Hanford and on and on and on. Riveted, he was. Hanford and CGS are a really really good bad story to tell out loud. Theres hardly anything scarier. I like to summon Edgar Allen Poe before I tell the story to people who need to hear it. Before I left Matt told me to please make appts w/ all the members of Council to talk about this...he reminded me that Mayor will need others to vote w/ him....That was positive! Making appts now for the other members.
