Much as I was/am shaken by the horrible incidents in Stockholm, I - TopicsExpress

Much as I was/am shaken by the horrible incidents in Stockholm, I also cant help feeling thankful for having friends and strangers who attempted to help in different ways. I received numerous messages expressing support and concern; an invitation to stay in France (although that is quite funny); a Norwegian telling me life is better if I cross the border; a primary school classmate called and emailed from London, to see if there was anything he could do; a few people called different MFA offices in Europe and Singapore without me asking; a business contact hunted down the secretary to the Singapores Consulate General in Copenhagen; a former student called the hotel manager on her accord; a couple from Lund staying in the hotel checked on me everytime they ran into me, offered their assistance, including money; most of my students and colleagues offer to pay for my meals and loan me cash, one came with bag of my favorite chips; one took a picture of me with four beautiful and exotic women as a compensation for my loss; most of them also have to listen to my sighing and occasional jokes about the situation. I have no expectation as far as my lost properties are concerned, and if by some miracle they are found, in parts or in whole, I already made several promises to go down on my knees and kiss any street of Stockholm. The hotel management finally contacted me and I told them I only have two needs - to get my travel document sorted out as soon as possible so I can concentrate on the task I have in Stockholm; to get us our refund and a new hotel so that we dont have to be reminded again and again how badly we were treated. I am otherwise very touched and humbled by all the words and efforts from all of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
