“Much of the time Nakamura rode awkwardly atop camels and donkeys, which he found arduous in his weakened condition. They eventually reached a village in Nepal called Gorkhe, which was at the foot of Mt. Kanchenjunga in the Himalayas. At 28,146 feet, Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world. Yogis came to Gorkhe to practice under the guidance of Kaliapa, who was their guru. Kaliapa’s retreat, situated in a sharply sloped gorge, was an independent rural community comprised of diminutive cabins. In this yoga village an elderly man was assigned to care for Nakamura, who was offered a simple hut. His roommate was a goat. He was given a pale azure cloth to wear around his waist, an Indian garment known as a dhoti.” The Teachings of Tempu H. E. Davey
