Mud Fund Derby City Cup (Louisville, KY) Recap. Just when we decide which are our favorite Cyclocross courses, it seems we go to a new venue and find a course that makes us want to renumber that list! The 2014 course at Eva Bandman Park and Cyclocross Venue definitely falls into that category! It had a HUGE sand pit (200 long...which they tilled to make it sufficiently challenging), barriers immediately following another sand pit, granite steps, wood steps, run-ups, jumps, berms, steep off-camber sections (turns, climbs, and descents), and yes... even power sections! After morning school work, we headed over to the course each day to train, look at lines, and decide how we were going to tackle the obstacles. It seemed to really pay off, as Turner and Noah both appeared to be more comfortable in the technical sections then most of their respective competitors. For both days, Noah raced hard all the way to the finish line and posted impressive top-20 finishes in UCI Elite Junior fields that boasted some of the best young riders in the US (and making it clear that he is one of them!). Turner raced in fields consisting of Elite Masters Women 35+, Cat 3 Women, and Elite U-19 Women. Saturday she was 6th over-all and 2nd in the Elite U-19 category. Though she raced hard, she wasnt happy with that result... so she came back on Sunday and rode away with 1st overall! Many thanks to the Louisville promoters, course crew, volunteers and sponsors who all came together to create an EPIC race weekend! #Iamspecialized #WEW1N Closer to home, Ian Clarke, Andrew Borden, and Jonah competed in Putney, Vermont at the West Hill Shop Cyclocross Race. Andrew finished 1st in the U-19 boys (Ian was 2nd), Jonah was 2nd in the Mens Cat 1/2/3 field, and Ian went out again to take 2nd in the Mens Cat 3/4 field. Further south (Hartford), Mikko Aho competed in the Veterans Memorial CX Race, and took the third spot on the boys 13-15 podium. Heading east to Plymouth, MA, Vivien Rindisbacher took First Saturday, and Second Sunday in the Junior 15-18 category at the Plymouth Festival of CX. Great job by everyone! This coming weekend most are taking off to make sure we are all well rested going into the finale of the 2014 New England CX season (New England Championships, Sterling, Warwick, and Ice Weasels).
