Mukobeko Maximum security prison is rocked by a series of diseases outbreak and over ten prisoners have died in the past two weeks while many others remain admitted at the prison health centre and at kabwe general hospital’s (KGH) ward 6. The prison once described as ‘hell on earth’ by ceremonial vicepresident Guy Scott is rocked with congestion and poor sanitation facilities. A Watchdog check in KGH ward 6 found over 6 ailing prisoners chained to their beds while receiving medication for various ailments. Prison authorities have continued to deny abuse of prisoners at the holding facilities in the country whose human rights record is fastly deteriorating with continued harassment of media practitioners, opposition members, traditional leaders, civil society members and ordinary citizens.
