Mukund Setlur and I watched the movie together . And we share common views on this . In Mukunds words - First of all let me award the golden middle finger award to all those who believe there are no good movies made in Kannada. Like all languages we have our share of good and not so good movies. In the last 8 months, a bunch of Kannada movies are making an impact either in terms of its contents or its making! Ugram is a movie to be watched out in terms of its making be it editing, screen play and the overall sense of direction. I thought it had international standards. Yes, it does have a superhuman hero and has villains flying like they were on wings. (so did Kill Bill, did it not?) The director has used the medium of cinema on its multi dimensional planes be it screen play, editing or the camera work to hold the viewers on to the edge of their seats. If you have managed to do that even when you have a predictable story line then that I guess is a sample of good cinema! The other thing I liked about the movie is the strength of characterization; all of the actors stay true to their characters. You don’t have the characters jumping from emotional to unemotional, serious to jumping jack in a matter of a few scenes. And what a bloody relief, no lengthy dialogues to fill an encyclopedia. Two flaws of the movie were the comedy tracks and the songs which slowed down the narrative. Go watch the movie there is hard work in every frame and uniqueness in terms of the treatment. Finally a message from our sponsors : ಗಾಂಚಲಿ ಬಿಡಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ನೋಡಿ
