Multi-Taskers I admit to being a tiny bit afraid before - TopicsExpress

Multi-Taskers I admit to being a tiny bit afraid before putting words to paper. Dividing my time between thinking, writing, hoping to come up with a readable piece of work. Today’s chosen thinking and writing will be on the subject of multi-tasking. Multi-Taskers: quite frankly peeve me off. My next door neighbour is one of these breeds, a very nice fellow, always polite, never makes any unduly noise, never hangs his washing out on a Sunday, a good all-round Joe. Actually his name is Victor. Were was I, Oh yes. Victor. Victor can turn his hand to most things around the house. If he is not up a ladder clearing the gutters or painting the windows, and providing it’s not raining, he can be found under his old car. Of course I don’t notice any of this activity. My wife does. She starts making lists, things that need to be done around our house. Jobs I’m always putting of because I’m no good at them. If and when I do tackle the odd job, it will nearly always end up being a disaster. If you cannot make a good job of a task, leave it to the person who can. Unfortunately that’s not my wife’s thinking. As far as she’s concerned, if Victor can do it, why cant you. To avoid further altercations, I bite my lip, huff and swear, and trot off to the garage . After a rummage around, I gather what tools I think are needed along with the wife’s list and return to the house. I do possess a few old tools, (they were my Dads, he past away a couple of years ago). After about an hour of banging, sticking, and a lot of rubbing down. The jobs done. Standing back to survey my completed task I soon realise that although the problem is now fixed, it’s indeed a very poor effort. I do try to make a good repair job. I can even get a sort of sadistic pleasure out of what I’m doing. The overseer (wife) will inspect the project in silence. She possesses this wonderful sad dog look, accompanied by a nodding/shaking head. I know the completed task is crap - so does she. I get a sympathetic pat on the head and she off to write another list. I get the feeling deep down she would have liked to have married a Victor.
