Mum question: I have an 8 month old boy, who wakes 1-2 times per night. Up until one month ago I would feed him, hed fall asleep on the boob & easily transfer to cot (next to my bed). Easy!!! This has all changed, he will now only go back to sleep in my arms or cuddled up next to me in my bed. Must have physical contact (with me, Dad will not do). I have been taking a gentle approach & just going with it, thinking its a phase & will pass. Now Im not so sure & yet again find myself cuddling him to sleep at 3am. Could it be part of separation anxiety? Has he developed a cheeky sleep association? During the day & at bedtime, he is breastfed to sleep & goes down into cot without drama. Its just this middle of the night wake up that WWIII breaks out if I even look at his cot. Do I actively try to change this pattern OR just accept this is what he needs from me for now & wont always want/need his Mum to cuddle him at 3am. Pinky says: If its not a problem to you, its not a problem. If you see your babys strong expression for cuddles as a biological need - probably due to separation anxiety or some big developmental leaps, it will be easier to go with the flow. And take heart, he might need somebody to cuddle him at 3 am when he is 18 - but it wont be you!
